Almitra McMillan -
Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Acro Instructor
Almitra McMillan is a dynamic instructor who has a long history in dance. At a very young age she joined the Denise Lester Dance Academy in Toronto where she spent 12 years training, competing, and choreographing. During her time at Denise Lester’s, Almitra not only competed on a national and international level, she also found time to help a fellow team mate start her own dance studio. In addition to her dance training, Almitra took gymnastics at Pickering Aerials Gymnastics Club where she completed all her basic levels. When invited to join the competitive gymnastic team Almitra reluctantly had to decline because of conflicting schedules with her dance training.
At the conclusion of her training at DLDA, Almitra went west to London Ontario to pursue her academic education at the University of Western Ontario. While there, she taught at the Expressions Dance Arts and Dance Pointe studios where her choreography won overall titles as well as numerous special awards. One of Almitra’s hip-hop groups was invited and performed at the World Hip Hop Championships in Los Angeles.
While balancing teaching and school kept her busy Almitra always found time to perform. Her credits include performances at The Molson Indy, the Fashion Cares AIDS Fundraiser Circus: Circus and the theme park Paramount Canada's Wonderland. Some of her film and television credits include Breakfast Television, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and the football series Play Makers. Almitra has also ventured into the world of music video working with artists such as Kreesha Turner and Keelo Gramz.
Always looking for ways to stay fresh and innovative Almitra frequently seeks training under choreographers such as Danny Davalos, Luther Brown, Tina Landen, Chris Judd, Faye Rawe and Brian Friedman.
With her BATD certificates in stage, acrobatics, ballet and modern, Almitra is not only a well-qualified instructor but also a successful performer. Style, strength, flexibility and technique are some of the important elements of dance taught to her students but most importantly Almitra's students are taught to have fun through their learning experience.
