Dance Odyssey - April 12th - 15th, 2007

Dance Odyssey was Step with Style's first competitive endeavor and it was many of the dancers' first time out on stage! With a competitive team of only 19 ladies Step with Style achieved a great deal of recognition throughout the entire competition. Winning Specialty Awards, Overall Awards, Scholarship as well as Choreography Awards!

With a total of thirty seven 1st Place awards, nine 2nd Place awards, and one 3rd place award not including their countless overall placements, Step with Style had an amazing start to their competitive season! We would like to share this exciting news and send out many congratulations to our entire competitive team!

Specialty Awards

In order to receive a specialty award a dancer or group must take make quite an impression on the adjudicator. Every adjudication the selected judge chooses the routines that caught their attention and presents the awards.

These awards could be given for a number of reasons, but any dancer or group that receives a specialty award should feel very honoured! The judge takes time to explain to the audience why they thought the dancer or group of dancers stood out to them. Dancers on Step with Style's competitive team received numerous specialty awards at Dance Odyssey! Congratulations to the following dancers and groups!

Beautiful Feet Award!

Trinity Coatham 5yrs Ballet Novice Solo "Little Doll" Trinity received this award for her attention to stretching and pointing her feet!

Beautiful Porta Bras Award!

Kayla Coatham 7 yrs Novice Ballet Solo "Dance Of the Reed Flutes" Kayla caught the judge's attention with her graceful arm work in her ballet solo.

Polished Award!

Pre Junior level dancers, Megann McCandless and Trinity Coatham- 5 yrs Novice Tap Duet "Don't Worry Be Happy!" These two young ladies floored judges with their clean and crisp tap sounds and precise movements at such a young age!

Class Act Award!

Junior dancers Amy Cornish, Paige Cornish, Kylie Puddicombe, Kristina Drazso and Kayla Coatham of 8 yrs Tap Group "Steam Heat" wowed judges with their classy performance! Our judge was very happy to see our young ladies hold themselves so professionally!

Great Technique Award!

Madison Bell 10 yrs Ballet Solo "Danube Waltz" Madison impressed the adjudicators with her technique and placement. All judges made mention of Madison's ability to progress in the future!

Magical Moments Award!

Madison Bell 10yrs Jazz Solo "It's About That Walk" Madison came out on stage on fire! Judges called her a powerhouse that was a pleasure to watch because she created magical moments throughout her solo! Judges commented on her ability to take time and perform each step of her routine!

Amazing Technique Award!

Angela Casalino 14 yrs Lyrical Solo "I Wish" Angela had the audience as well as judges in the palm of her hand in her lyrical performance! Judges were thrilled to see a young lady have such strong technique and took the time to talk about her with the audience as well as all the other competitors!

Potential Award!

Carly Almon 12yrs Lyrical Solo "This Is My Song" Carly was thrilled to receive a specialty potential award from the adjudicators! Judges commented on her ability to go far with her dancing! Many people recognized Carly from the previous year and could not believe how far she has come since then!

Over All Awards

Overall awards are given for the top five marks of the entire competitions entries for this certain category. (For example every Junior solo age 11 and under no matter what discipline is looked at for the top five marks for overall Junior soloist. The same is done with groups, lines, productions etc.)
