Instructor Tap, Jazz, Stretch, Lyrical Jazz & Ballet
Jean has studied extensively in various genres of dance, including ballet, tap, hip-hop, contemporary and jazz in her hometown of Ottawa. She has completed her advanced level examinations in both jazz and tap (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers syllabus), as well her Advanced 1 and 2 vocational ballet examinations through the Royal Academy of Dance, achieving high standings in all disciplines. Jean achieved much success as a competitive dancer, winning numerous regional titles as well as a national title (Dancer of the Year, American Dance Awards). She also was the recipient of many convention scholarships (Triple Threat, Coastal Dance Rage, NUVO, The Pulse).
Jean has choreographed routines for local musicians in the Ottawa area for public performances at festivals. In 2007 Jean choreographed and was a backup dancer for Weird Al Yankovic at a special production during the Ottawa Exhibition. Jean was a featured dancer in Dean Brody's music video 'Canadian Girls' and in 2014 her performing company 'Bringing Tap Back' held a spotlight on an episode of the television series 'The Next Step'. She works actively as a professional tap dancer in the Toronto area and is hired for many corporate and private functions. Jean has performed with professional tap companies alongside Everett Smith, Kim Chalovich, and David Cox- both on stage and on screen.
Jean regularly seeks opportunities to attend dance festivals and workshops such as the Chicago World – Chicago Human Rhythm Project, and the Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival, to name a few, in order to further her craft and be inspired by some of the world’s finest tap dancers.
Jean has been a member of SWS’s award winning staff for years now. Her routines have earned Highest Tap Mark of the entire Competition, 1st Overall Soloists and Choreographic Specialty awards to name a few. More importantly, Jean’s mission is to assist everyone to find their passion and connection with tap dancing.
Jean has also shared her expertise in an array of other genres. Her lyrical and jazz routines recognized are outstanding and bring out the dancers personality and character. A very well-rounded artist with a large passion for tap Jean looks forward to continuing with this amazing team and watching her SWS dancers grow in every area she can!
